Shin-En

“Shin-En” means “a celebration of the heart.” This original, open-source piece, composed by Mark H, is a favorite among many taiko players throughout the US, Japan, and Europe. Learning “Shin-En” will not only help you to connect with your fellow workshop participants but will also give you a connection to other taiko players around the world.

This simple yet dynamic song can be learned by those who are still relatively new to taiko but also features a number of different skills that will challenge more experienced players. No matter where you are in your taiko journey, this workshop will be a ton of fun!

Planning to join us on Sunday, March 31 for the 2019 Sakura Taiko Takeover at the Tidal Basin? We’re organizing a massive “Shin-En” that will feature as many players as possible! So if you (or your group members) don’t yet know this piece, this is your chance to learn it before cherry blossom season arrives!

This workshop is open to anyone who has taken two full series of Mark’s Rec Class or has equivalent experience. BUT! if you are interested and have only been in one class series, contact Mark to see if this workshop is a good fit for you!

BONUS!
Join us for an optional extra hour of “Shin-En” practice from 5 – 6pm along with the folks who are working to learn the fue part of the song! This will gives you just enough time to take a break before jumping back in. 😉

Kick off 2019 with a whole weekend of taiko!

This is one of FOUR awesome workshops happening this weekend at the University of Maryland! You can also join us for the Shin-En Fue Workshop (Saturday, 5 January from 4:30 – 6pm); the Advanced Shin-En Workshop (Sunday, 6 January from 10am – 1pm); and the Bachi Maneuvers Workshop (Sunday, 6 January from 2 – 5pm). We’ll also schedule some fun social time on Saturday evening so those coming in from out of town can enjoy a little extra camaraderie with their fellow taiko drummers. What a great way to celebrate the new year!
