Intro to Naname-uchi Workshop
August 14, 2021 @ 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM EDT
This asymmetrical style of taiko, which involves playing on a slanted stand, originated in festival drumming in the Tokyo region. It has since become a staple of the North American taiko community because of its endless potential for creativity and expressive movement. This workshop introduces the stance, technique and form that are the basis for this challenging and dynamic style.
Whether you are new to naname (it’s our focus for the Advanced Skills Class this fall, so if you want to join that class, don’t miss out!), looking to brush up on fundamentals, or interested in exploring the methodology for teaching this style in your own group, this workshop is for you!
This workshop is open to anyone who has taken 2 full series of our Recreational Taiko Class or who has equivalent taiko experience (about 6 months). Not sure if this workshop is right for you? Contact Mark H and he can help!
