Foundations for Creativity
Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned player, there are always new creative possibilities with the taiko. This 10 hour intensive will focus on building skills and techniques that anyone can use to be more creative with their taiko playing. We’ll work on creating different tones on the taiko, becoming more sensitive players, expanding our listening, and take our first steps toward improvisation and composition. This intensive is open to all skill levels* with the only requirement being an open mind and an enthusiasm for trying something new!
(*basic taiko experience recommended)
NOTE: This intensive includes ten hours of instruction (7 hrs on Saturday and 3 hrs on Sunday). Recommended hotels will be in College Park, MD as close to UMD as possible. Upon request, homestays for Saturday night may also be available. A free reception will be held on the Saturday evening for participants. All other meals not included. Travel not covered but some local shuttling may be arranged. Taiko provided.
Saturday August 20 (12:00 – 8:00 pm) & Sunday, August 21 (10:30am – 2:30pm)
