Join us for the first of two open workshops with Kris Bergstrom, our first 2018 Mark H Taiko Artist in Residence!
If you’ve seen Kris Bergstrom play taiko, chance are that you associate him with a dynamic, fun, and flexible approach to naname-uchi (slant-style taiko). Kris spent two and a half years in his basement studio developing the exciting movements of “Jack Bazaar” and his original take on slant form. Learn the guiding principles of this choreography, the advanced rhythm techniques he’s developed, and some of Kris’ newest work. This workshop is open to anyone who has experience playing naname-uchi; Kris teaches using a “scaffolding” technique to quickly teach rhythm and movement to students with a variety of taiko experience.
Kristofer Bergstrom is an accomplished taiko performer, composer, and choreographer, known for pushing the tonal possibilities of Japanese drums and for his groundbreaking movement for slant-style taiko. He was a founding member of On Ensemble, formed Los Angeles Taiko Institute alongside Yuta Kato, and is currently 2017-2018 Artist in Residence for Los Angeles County.
Register today! This AWESOME workshop is likely to fill up quickly!
And don’t miss our other workshop with Kris: Easing into Composition.
