Odaiko Fundamentals with 嶋本 龍: 8/7

If you are going to have someone show you fundamentals of odaiko, 龍 Sensei is one of the best options!
A powerful and masterful style of playing taiko, odaiko is often considered the pinnacle of contemporary taiko virtuosity. 嶋本 龍 is an award-winning odaiko soloist and gifted teacher and in this workshop, he will introduce you to this style of playing from the ground up – warm-up, stance, striking technique and body awareness.

This workshop has a prerequisite of at least 2 class series – 6 months – or instructor’s permission.

About 嶋本 龍

Born in Wakayama prefecture, 嶋本 龍 first experienced taiko playing at the age of eleven. At sixteen, he began playing taiko with a local group, Shippu Uchi Taiko. For many years, he chose careers outside of taiko, but at the age of thirty-two finally decided to become a professional taiko player. Until his winning of first award winning, he studied with former Kodo player Katsuji Kondo, his mentor. He now works as a full-time soloist and instructor. Shortly afterward, in 2011, he received the Outstanding Performance Award in the category of odaiko (large drum) solo performance at Okaya International Taiko Festival.
Currently, 龍 teaches taiko locally and internationally, in person and online. Has been an instructor for various workshops in Japan and outside of Japan. He also performs as a soloist all over Japan.

CURRENT MARK H TAIKO PROTOCOLS
Here are the protocols we are following for the safety and comfort of our students and instructors:
- ALL participants will be REQUIRED to wear masks in the building, EVEN WHEN PLAYING.
- We will be limiting capacity to allow us to observe some social distancing.
- Instructors are fully vaccinated.
- We will take regular breaks during which participants will be invited to step away from others in order to take a water break or a “breathing break.” Everyone will be responsible for bringing their own water.
