Sato no Matsuri: 8/7

August 7, 2022 @ 6:00 PM 8:00 PM EDT

$40
嶋本龍 matsuri

“Sato no Matsuri” is an original song by 嶋本 龍 that highlights the festival experience – casual, communal and fun!

Much of contemporary kumidaiko music is based on “matsuri bayashi” or “festival music” – meant to be played all day long and in the festival context. This all-level workshop is not just to learn the rhythms of this song, we will also play all together, rotating through while enjoying the festive atmosphere. The more the merrier!
(NOTE: we will be recreating some of the matsuri atmosphere with snacks and drinks…!!)

About 嶋本 龍

嶋本 龍

Born in Wakayama prefecture, 嶋本 龍 first experienced taiko playing at the age of eleven. At sixteen, he began playing taiko with a local group, Shippu Uchi Taiko. For many years, he chose careers outside of taiko, but at the age of thirty-two finally decided to become a professional taiko player. Until his winning of first award winning, he studied with former Kodo player Katsuji Kondo, his mentor. He now works as a full-time soloist and instructor. Shortly afterward, in 2011, he received the Outstanding Performance Award in the category of odaiko (large drum) solo performance at Okaya International Taiko Festival.

Currently, 龍 teaches taiko locally and internationally, in person and online. Has been an instructor for various workshops in Japan and outside of Japan. He also performs as a soloist all over Japan.
