Meet the Artist: Mark H Rooney

An informal evening of taiko featuring Mark H Rooney!
It’s time for our next Meet the Artist event! In these special concerts, taiko artists play some of their favorite pieces, share works-in-progress, discuss their influences, answer audience questions, and much more.nnSomehow, we’ve never managed to feature our very own Mark H in one of these awesome concerts … until now! You probably know that Mark H is a taiko performer, teacher, and artist – but you may not know that in 2023, Mark is celebrating 25 years of playing taiko (exactly half his life). To mark this auspicious (and somewhat arbitrary) coincidence, Mark will demonstrate various original pieces and talk about both his personal taiko journey and artistic process. He’ll also answer any questions that the audience might have (on topic, please!) and discuss why he doesn’t use the title “Sensei,” his perspectives on teaching taiko and why he is “the world’s most dangerous half-Japanese, half-Scottish solo improvisational taiko artist.”
