Mark H Taiko is proud to present Unit Souzou!
Want to give experiences instead of stuff this holiday season? We have a great suggestion: tickets to a unique performance coming to the DC area on January 6 & 7!
Intricately weaving taiko, dance and drama, 88: Hachi Hachi is a bold theatrical event investigating the space that exists between two people. Portland-based Unit Souzou Co-Directors Michelle Fujii and Toru Watanabe face each other through a rhythmic journey uncovering their entwined lineages and personal histories.
88: Hachi Hachi evokes layers of meaning found in the number eight, which is considered particularly auspicious in Japanese culture. The husband-and-wife duo’s wedding anniversary on August 8 and other coincidences echo the double meaning of the word “88” – “head to head,” the touching of foreheads symbolizing intimate communication. The performance comprises a series of vignettes that finds the performers negotiating space while tangling, yielding and finally, synchronizing with each other’s rhythms.
Mark H Taiko is co-presenting two performances of this awesome piece at Dance Place: Saturday, January 6 @8pm and Sunday, January 7 @4pm. Join us for an incredible performance and bring your friends and family along! Tickets start at $15 and are a great way to support the arts in DC this holiday season.
