Join us for an intro to one of the most popular taiko styles!
Naname uchi (playing the taiko on a slanted stand) offers a broad range of options for movement and expression. Which also makes it a very challenging and rewarding style to learn! The style was originally developed in the Tokyo area by the group Oedo Sukeroku and is based on local temple festival drumming.
Open to anyone who has taken two full series of Mark’s Rec Class or has equivalent experience (about 6 months). This workshop is HIGHLY recommended for those who are interested in joining our Winter Advanced Skills Class, which will be dedicated to naname uchi!
And if you are a seasoned naname player, this is also a great opportunity to brush up on the basics and/or study a different methodology of teaching this style in your own group!
Kick off 2020 with a whole weekend of taiko!
This is one of THREE awesome workshops happening this weekend! You can also join us for the Katsugi Okedo Workshop (Saturday, 4 January from 12:00 – 3:00pm) and the Taiko Communication Workshop (Saturday, 4 January from 4:00 – 7:00pm).
We’ll also schedule some fun social time on Saturday evening so those coming in from out of town can enjoy a little extra camaraderie with their fellow taiko drummers. What a great way to celebrate the new year!
