Mark H Taiko is proud to host internationally-recognized taiko master Tiffany Tamaribuchi from February 24 – 26!
From the earliest point in my taiko career, Tiffany-Sensei has been an important inspiration and influence. I would rate her as among the top taiko instructors I have ever had the privilege to study with. — Mark H Rooney
It’s February! Anyone else feel like that snuck up on you, too?
Whether it’s the mild winter weather we’ve been enjoying, a sense of being overwhelmed by national and global news, or a simple post-holiday lethargy, it seems like many of us in the Mark H Taiko family are surprised by the fact that February is now upon us. And that means we are much closer to our exciting series of workshops with Tiffany Tamaribuchi than you may have guessed!
Tiffany-sensei will be offering three public workshops at UMD College Park:
Workshop A: FUNDAMENTALS (SAT, 2/25, 6–9 PM)
Build a strong foundation through simple and easily applicable techniques to help you play with more ease, power, and speed when you want to. Play with a strong resonant sound, better control, consistent timing, and with greater expression while exerting less overall effort and minimizing risk of injury that can be used as an approach to playing multiple styles. All levels welcome
Workshop B: KATA/INJURY PREVENTION/CONTROL & EXPRESSION (SUN, 2/26, 9:30–12:30)
We all know that taiko drumming is a physically demanding activity. Given the nature of how we move our bodies when we play, we are more at risk for certain kinds of injuries, especially with certain more physically demanding styles. The goal of this workshop is to provide you with tools and techniques that you can use to prevent injury while giving you a greater sense of control and freedom as you’re playing. All levels welcome
Workshop C: ODAIKO (SUN, 2/26, 1–4 PM)
Great tips and techniques for approaching this fun and powerful style of drumming. We’ll begin with core fundamentals and expand from there to address common problems and work on developing your own style and sense of expression. Basic odaiko experience required
You can sign up for one, two, or all three of these workshops as your schedule permits, but please be aware that there are discounts for registering for all three!
$65 = 1 workshop
$120 = 2 workshops
$155 = 3 workshops
These workshops will be AWESOME. Don’t miss out on this amazing learning opportunity with one of the leaders in the global taiko community!
